Mechanical Engineer/Craftsperson

Role Summary

A vacancy now exists to join a small but highly successful innovative medical implant company which has operated in the field of minimally invasive surgery for more than 30 years, specialising in medical devices and orthopaedic implants. The role is based in Leeds, close to Leeds and Bradford airport.


Our Engineering Team manufactures and maintains bespoke equipment used in the manufacture and processing of implantable medical textiles and prototypes surgical instruments and metallic implants.  The work involves:

  • Producing components by milling and turning
  • Bench fitting
  • Mechanical, electrical and electronic assembly
  • Testing and qualification of new equipment
  • Ongoing maintenance and repair of equipment

Essential requirements:

You should have a maintenance/tool room background, with excellent mechanical reasoning skills, combined with good hand skills and machining capability.

You should be qualified in Mechanical Engineering to HNC/City & Guilds/NVQ 4 or equivalent.

You should have at least 5 years post-qualification experience in the following:

  • Bench fitting, repair, fault diagnosis;
  • Electrical /electronic assembly & repair.

Desirable requirements:

Experience in manual and 3 axis CNC milling and turning would also be an advantage.


You will be required to work Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm (37.5 hours working week).


Competitive salary of approximately £28k to £32k depending on skills and experience, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
