As 2019 draws to a close we are looking back on a year of growth and achievement for Xiros. In January, for the second year running, the company was ranked in the Sunday Times Top 100 Best Small Companies to Work For, moving up the rankings from 37 to 21 and leading to a day of celebration for all colleagues. We are proud to have been recognised for creating an organisational culture and environment focused on wellbeing and supporting skills development, allowing employees to thrive.
We were delighted to launch Xiros Inc, our North American division, early in the year and to welcome John, Laird and Sue to the Xiros team. Two Xiros products are now available in the region, and Xiros Inc has been building relationships with surgeons at annual meetings across the USA including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.
In May Xiros were honoured to retain our Investors in People Gold Accreditation; a prestigious award that highlights our commitment to people. This achievement was augmented at the end of November when we were named as Investors In People Gold Employer of the Year (50-499 employees), selected from a shortlist of companies from around the world. The award reflects the view that Xiros is a leading organisation in delivering the vision of IIP, to Make Work Better.
Xiros Surgical, our surgical devices division, launched the FlexPasser Tendon Retrieval Kit in the autumn at the British Society for Surgery of the Hand meeting in Dublin. We are looking forward to supporting the work of hand surgeons with this game-changing solution throughout 2020 and beyond.
Xiros continued to work with Ahead Partnership to promote careers in the STEM sector, giving school students an insight into our industry and enhancing their employability skills. This year we have delivered careers talks at schools, helped Cubs attain their Science Badges and welcomed a group of sixth-form students to our facility to undertake STEM activities.
Our commitment to the environment and corporate social responsibility leads us to constantly improve our environmental performance and to care for our beautiful Yorkshire Dales surroundings. In 2019 we worked with the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust planting trees as part of our carbon offsetting responsibility, and undertook local volunteering activities including combating non-native plant species growth with Yorkshire Wildlife Trust.
The Xiros charity committee organised a range of events and activities throughout the year to support and raise funds for worthwhile charities; we wore pink for breast cancer research, held charity breakfasts and cake sales, bought Christmas gifts for those in need and raised considerable amounts for causes including Crisis, Macmillan, Caring For Life and the Bone Cancer Research Trust.
As all at Xiros look forward to 2020, we would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a wonderful festive season and a peaceful and prosperous new year.
