Volunteering Day at Kirkstall Nature Reserve

On 11th June Xiros volunteers spent a day helping to maintain Kirkstall Valley Nature Reserve in Leeds as part of our company mission to make a positive difference to the local community and environment.

Despite the wet weather, the team had an enjoyable day pruning overgrown branches to clear footpaths, picking up rubbish and helping to remove invasive plant species which threaten native plants and habitats. These invasive plants include Himalayan Balsam and Giant Hogweed which grow along riverbanks and die back in the winter months leaving large areas exposed to erosion which contributes to flood risk.
