On Tuesday 9th May 2017 Xiros attended the Sunday Times SME Export Track 100 Awards ceremony at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower in London, along with 184 other guests to celebrate being listed as one of the 100 UK SMEs with the fastest growing export sales.
The evening kicked off with a “speed-networking” session, where the work and culture of Xiros attracted a lot of interest and admiration. It was humbling to be within the company of so many successful, entrepreneurial people and to find that, despite the focus on developing their own businesses, they were genuinely impressed and interested in the values and culture of Xiros, and in awe of the products Xiros designs and manufactures and the positive impact they have on people’s lives. Corporate social responsibility was a common feature of the conversations, and seen as an integral part of the journey to developing a great company; a number of organisations had well established programmes for giving in-kind donations of their workforce time and expertise as well as making financial donations to charity, whilst intending to do more as their companies grew and increased in resources and sustainability.
Speakers on the night included Dr Liam Fox, Conservative spokesperson on International Trade, Tom Chapman, Co-founder and Co-executive Chairman of Matchesfashion.com and Tim Warrillow, Co-Founder & CEO of the FeverTree mixer drinks company. All of the speakers were well informed, engaging and up-lifting, and Tim Warrillow’s passionate account of the Fevertree story, and the lengths they went to in building the company was truly inspiring.
There was a surprise on the night: Xiros was one of just three companies shortlisted for an Innovation Award, sponsored by Lloyds Banking Group. The award was ultimately awarded to Clyde Space, a space satellite technology company based in Scotland.
The overall winners of the Export Track 100 were NaughtOne, a furniture design and manufacturing company based in Knaresborough, pioneers in creating collaborative workspaces for high tech companies such as Google, Facebook, Nike and Amazon. Never ones to shirk a challenge, the directors were also interested in creating collaborative spaces to facilitate collaboration and creativity at Xiros!
