Xiros, a Leeds healthcare company that exports over 90% of its production has been praised for its spectacular success and rewarded with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International
Presenting the award to Xiros, John Brennan OBE, Vice Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, said: “It’s incredible that over 24 years you have achieved spectacular success in a niche market – a huge achievement in these difficult times. Much of this is due to your continued team investment in research and innovation and the Award will benefit you in terms of increased profile, sales and morale. It will provide a wonderful launch pad for 2009.”
The £4.5m turnover company has grown export sales by around 50% in the past three years, mostly to the USA and in the form of minimally invasive prosthetic ligament products used in the repair of joints.
Further progress is promised from the £2m Xiros Investment Fund that has been set aside for the development of new product ideas brought to the company by surgeons and health workers. A new £250,000 laboratory is about to come on line for these projects and it will also be made available for other companies with research and development projects.
